Peter Mokaba Stadium

About

This stunning venue is named after Peter Mokaba (1959-2002), who was a true hero in the struggle for a democracy in South Africa. He was a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister in the Department of Environmental affairs and tourism. The stadium is dedicated to his memory.

The stadium design was inspired by the baobab tree. At each corner you see a cylindrical steel structure that resembles the baobab’s muscular trunk. They hold the sweeping, aerodynamic roof that is designed to flex in the high winds that frequently occur during summer rainfall in Polokwane.

In the 2010 FIFA World Cup,Peter mokaba stadium proudly hosted fouor matches :

Algeria vs Slovenia on 13 June, France vs Mexico on 17 June, Greece vs Argentina on 22 June and Paraguay vs New Zeland on 24 June 2010

The stadium seats up to 45000.
